FAQ BASICS

Are you unsure of what income protection is, how it can benefit you and what it covers? Then have a read through this introductory section and familiarise yourself with our service.

Income protection is designed to pay you a regular income if you are unable to work due to sickness or after an accident.

Yes, If you are aged between 16 and 59, a UK taxpayer with a UK bank or building society account and registered with a UK doctor. Please note pre-existing injuries or illnesses may be excluded. Certain high-risk occupancies may also be affected call us to discuss this further.

Based on the plan selected you are covered until your policy term ends, you return to work or you retire whichever comes sooner.
The cost is based on the amount of income you wish to cover, your age and waiting period before cover begins. Our bespoke plans start from just 18p per day.

WHAT IS A DEFERRED PERIOD?

The deferred period; or waiting period – is the length of time between the first day of your incapacity to the date when we start to pay your sickness benefit. If you are not sure of your waiting period, refer to your plan documents.

RESTRICTIONS

Please be aware that policies do not cover pre-existing medical conditions or injuries.

CLAIMING ON YOUR POLICY

If you wish to make a claim on an existing or future policy, please refer to this section to answer your queries around the claims process. Refer to your policy documents for your insurers claims process. Alternatively call us on 0800 029 1542 and our friendly advisors will explain the claims process and send you a claim form.

If the relevant documents, and all the supporting documents, are returned completed correctly then it is possible for a claim to be accepted within five working days of receiving the documents from you. This could vary dependent on your insurer. Refer to your policy documents for confirmation or call us on 0800 029 1542.

The insurer will notify you in writing. Your sickness benefit will then be paid monthly in advance into the bank account from which the premiums of your plan are paid.

It is important you notify us as soon as possible.

When you need to make a claim, you will need an original medical certificate, your last two months wage slips and latest P60 if you are employed. If you are self-employed, you will need your last 3 years account and tax returns.

We will also require a copy of your photo identity.

Once your claim has been accepted, your sickness benefit will then be paid monthly in advance into the bank account from which the premiums of your plan are paid.

CHANGING YOUR POLICY

If you change jobs be sure to notify your insurer as soon as possible, include information regarding a change of salary and or your occupation.

If you do not pay your premiums, your policy will cease and you will no longer be protected.

Yes, you can cancel your policy at any time. You will however be no longer protected and will lose access to your Sick Pay UK rewards programme.
